I am finally 21! This means I am fully fledged adult! So, I bet you are wondering how I spent this milestone birthday. Drinking? Partying? Dancing? Nope! I spent the day with my closest school friends and ate vegan food till we burst!
My friends suggested we went to a restaurant called “Mowgli” which is conveniently located in Manchester city centre. When I was told it was a curry restaurant, I was a little dubious if I am being completely honest. When it comes to spice, I am an utter wimp! I just do not see the appeal with spicy food! It feels like you have a flamethrower in your mouth while you are trying to enjoy your food. Not my idea of fun. However, when we got there, we were told the vegan curries were very mild. Thank the Lord!
I had never been before, so I was unsure on how it all worked. My friends told me that you order little dishes of curries and rice, which is very much like tapas. I loved the idea! It meant you got to try a whole host of different food and there was so much to share you didn’t have tapas anxiety! C’mon, you know what I mean by tapas anxiety! You are constantly on edge that someone will steal all of the food you want and you can’t relax through the whole damn meal!
We picked the ‘Tiffin Box’ which they describe as ‘4 tiers of veg and carb’. It was also pretty cool as they picked all of the dishes for you, so you don’t know what you are going to get. It is a food roulette! I like that as pushes you to try new things which you may never go for. It spices it up a little (excuse the pun!). Also, if you don’t like one of the dishes they bring out, the odds are you will like some of them!
By 2:30 we were all getting hangry. We needed some food down our gullet as soon as possible. When the staff came out with our dishes one by one, we were in awe of the delicious smells circulating our table. It looked so yummy! We didn’t even wait for the dishes to all be served, we tucked in as soon as the first bowl of food arrived.
There were lentil curries, butternut squash curries, flat breads, rice and good ol’ chips smothered in sauce. We were all in our element!
For the 6 of us, we only payed £9.10 each. Absolute bargain!
Once we payed we still stayed for a good few more hours. Time flies when you are having fun! It took us back to the days of school when we saw each other every day. Although we don’t see each other every day like before, we are still the best of friends. So lucky to know a group of girls as lovely and kind as them! I can’t wait to get together again and eat more vegan grub!
