Tips to Cleanse your Body AND your Mind

It seems to be the norm nowadays to be stressed. Stressed about work, stressed about deadlines, stressed about money. This stress derives from our need for perfectionism. We want to have a perfect life that people admire and look up to. If we aren’t doing something we view as productive, we tend to feel restless or lazy or unworthy of any free time. However, it is so utterly important to take time out and allow yourself to relax. Being kind to your body and mind is in itself very productive and key to maintaining a state of calmness. According to the book “Alternative Health – Meditation” by Erica Smith and Nicholas Wilks, if stress isn’t released from the body, many negative side effects can arise. It can lead to peptic ulcers, migraines, bad digestion and many cancers. Did you know stress related diseases are now one of biggest killers of the 21st century!?

This is why is VITAL to make time to relax and give your whole being a good old detox.

  • Cut down on caffeine

Although caffeine may be seen as a necessity to help you function like a normal human being, it also has many negative consequences if you already suffer from anxiety. Caffeine stimulates stress hormones and increases your heart rate. This leads you to feeling jittery and on edge making it difficult to let your body just remain in its natural state. Therefore, try and cut it out and let your body take a day off to do its own thing. Give decaf a go!DSC_0041 (1).JPG

  • Forget about all Social Media

Log out of everything. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat. It can be poison to your mindset when you begin to see a glimpse into people’s lives. This is when you can start to compare yourself to others. This puts your brain on over time as you begin to worry you are behind in life. So, actively decide to take a step back and just be in your own company and learn to enjoy being with yourself. Put on a face mask, create a quiet haven and just relax!DSC_0220.JPG

  • Meditate

I don’t know about you, but I find it difficult to just switch off. My mind is always active as I am always thinking about future tasks that I need to get done. That is why it is so necessary to rest your mind through meditation. Meditation allows you to become aware of your surroundings, your body and your mind. It helps you to free yourself from the modern-day rushes of life and just become conscious of yourself. It helps you relieve all of the built-up tension in your body which you sometimes don’t even realise you have. Meditation doesn’t have to take up hours of your day, you could take 10 minutes out of your day to be silent and be mindful of your feelings.DSC_0496.JPG

  • Drink more Water

Dehydration can be a major cause to why you may be getting headaches and not feeling your best. That is why you need to continuously drink plenty of water throughout the day to flush out all of the toxins festering in your body. It is recommended to drink about 2 litres a day.   • GRATITUDE

I go on about gratitude so much but it is because I believe so strongly on the positive impacts it has had on my life. Practising gratitude helps eliminate all of the negativity you are holding on to. It forces you to be positive about the life you are living. I recommend buying a pretty little note book which is primarily for writing everything you are grateful for in. Each night when you go to bed or every morning when you wake up, write a list of all the things you are appreciative of in your life. It helps so much to put everything in perspective and sets you up nicely for the day!IMG_3498
